San Diego State pitcher Stephen Strasburg has been named the pre-season national player of the year as a member of the 2009 Louisville Slugger All-American team as selected by Collegiate Baseball. A consensus All-America selection in 2008, he has also been named a preseason All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and appears on the Wallace Award watch list, an honor presented to the top collegiate player in the country at season's end. San Diego State sophomore center Paris Johnson (San Diego, Calif.) has been named an honorable mention selection for Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division I National Player of the Month for December. Johnson was one of 28 honorable mention picks from around the country up for the award which was given to Oklahoma's Courtney Paris. MORE

San Diego State (11-3; 1-0 MWC) will put its four-game winning streak on the line Saturday afternoon as Utah (10-5; 1-0 MWC) visits Cox Arena in the Aztecs' Mountain West Conference home opener. Game time is set for 1 p.m. PT and will be televised live on VERSUS. MORE
Aztec junior guard Jené Morris was the subject of a feature story on CBS College Sports that ran during halftime of the team's game with Air Force this past Wednesday. MORE
San Diego State jumped out to a 15-0 lead and never looked back, defeating visiting Air Force, 79-28, Wednesday night in both teams' Mountain West Conference opener at Cox Arena. With the victory, the Aztecs claimed their first league-opening win since 2005 and improved to 10-3 on the year, including a 7-0 mark at home. The Falcons, meanwhile, dropped to 4-10 in 2008-09. MORE
