Christina Ross was a three-year letterwinner for the Aztec softball team from
2006-08. Last season, Ross became the second All-American in program history
when she was named to the Easton Second Team. Over her career, Ross twice earned
MWC Pitcher of the Year honors and was a three-time all-league selection. Ross
is the career SDSU record holder in solo shutouts (23), shutouts (tied - 28) and
strikeouts (612), despite playing just three seasons for the Aztecs. Ross is
currently interning in the Aztec media relations office.
SAN DIEGO -- San Diego State men's golf head coach Ryan Donovan has the
Aztecs in the middle of their fall season after one of the most successful
spring campaigns in school history. SDSU has currently posted two top-10
finishes thus far, coming in second place at the Husky Invitational and in sixth
at the Sycuan Collegiate Invitational in nearby El Cajon. The next two weeks
will be busy for Donovan and the Aztecs as they are set to compete at the Rees
Jones Collegiate Invitational on Nov. 3-4, in Hilton Head, S.C., before
returning to San Diego only to travel across the Pacific Ocean the very next
week for the Turtle Bay Resort Invitational in Kahuku, Hawaii, Nov. 10-12, to
wrap up the fall slate.
Coach Donovan recently took time from his busy schedule to talk with
Christina Ross about the start of the season for The Ross Report.

On the team's start to the season: So far we've gotten off to a pretty
good start. The bar, we've definitely raised this year. We were a little bit
disappointed with the 6th place finish at our home event just based on being in
our back yard, knowing the golf course, and the teams that were here, but we're
definitely heading in the right direction.
On what he expects from his team going into the Rees Jones Collegiate
Invitational:
We're excited. We're expecting to be in contention with 9 holes to play, and
just see what happens. Everyone's playing real well right now.
On the team's depth and youth:
That's the exciting part. We definitely finally have the depth we've been
looking for. That's been our struggle in the past. It comes down to a hard
decision for me on who's traveling each week. Overall, it's exciting for the
depth and competition amongst the guys.
On recruiting internationally:
Overall, recruiting internationally has been very positive for our program. San
Diego sells itself. I think the hardest part with the international players is
that a lot of top schools are jumping on to that and following through with
international recruiting so it's a lot more competition. Where before we were
able to go over there and bring them out here, and it was kind of an easy sell.
Now we're competitive with other top programs.
On what the team needs to do to repeat last year's success:
We need to stick to basics and understand the foundation that we've built. We
need to work hard and not miss the little things. It comes down to detail a lot
in what we do to prepare. We need to remember that and not get too far ahead of
ourselves.
